Sean Sims
Professional Illustrator and designer in the U.K, producing
both commission based illustrations for national and international clients
example The Guardian and BBC as well as self-published open and limited edition
prints, he is currently working at home in Brighton. He studied design history
and has a passion for mid-century design, Sim’s theme of work foreshadows f his
inspiration of mid century designs. His worked with different media to create a
range of different final products like posters, wrapping paper, greeting cards,
t-shirts, children’s books and children’s learning cards. The fact he has
produce work in relation to a child based audience makes sense I feel his work
is best suited for that consumer market, due to his designs being colourful, bold
and almost simply making them child-like. Most of his work is produce in
Illustrator so the flatness and 2D can be presented well here using this
software, as that’s the style he likes to go for also to add block colours to
the design. Sean is a freelance designer but is also under two different agents
New Division who help him find work, and a licence agent who sells his print
work.
I think Sean’s work consists of very flat shapes and bold
and simple colour pallet colours, I like how simply his designs are, but they
work in relation to who it targets (Children) they probably love his designs. I
like how this is his style and he can make it work with any design brief he
receives for example the London Zoo (colours of the world 2) to something for
the British Airways in-flight magazine. He has done a lot over the years; it
was interesting listening him and what he did after he left education and how
he still seemed very enthusiastic about his work and you could tell he still
loves it and takes pride in what he designs.

Magazine illustration.
