Frances Moffatt

FRANCES MOFFATT

About Frances Moffatt:

Frances Moffatt is a North- East freelance Illustrator that specialises in the fashion industry, also on beauty and lifestyle imagery. Originally Frances studied Fashion marketing at Northumbria University, because she thought it covered a broad base of fashion related skills: Designs, pattern, photography, construction, styling, branding, graphic design, illustrations and promotion. During the period of her course she discovered her passion mostly lay in illustration. After graduation she accepted the job offer as working as an Assistant Accessories Designers at Luella. Though was a great experience and starting point, she only worked there a year before returning home to go back into education – MA in future Design at Teesside University. This enabled Moffatt the opportunity to produce an illustration portfolio. Her work consists of dynamic line design, combined with texture and vibrant colours also the addition of pattern design.  Some of her work was selected for the Association of Illustrators IMAGES 35 annual in the ‘New Talent’ category and also for the ‘Talent’ portfolio section on the D&AD website, what is an great achievement.

Publicity and presenting work:

Here is an article of Francis complemented with some of her illustrations, also here are some examples of a selection of her work being exhibited somewhere in saltburn-by-the sea.

Illustration analyse:
Here is one of Frances work that she included in a small exhibition. I really like the composition of the design, the manner in the way the girl is standing though you can’t see her whole figure, you can still get a sense of vibe from the body language. The posture/position of the illustrated figure give off a sheepish/flirtatious yet playful and shy atmosphere to the design in my opinion. The use of the dog also adds impact as it draws a little attention from the human figure but also helps it stand out too, having the dog present in this design supports my theory of the attitude that is represented by the female design as it puts in perspective the posture more clear as the dog is just sitting, so works good on a whole. The tone of the design is very calm and pleasant, it’s not anything too exciting, and this is shown through the pastel colours used they are very light. Also the fact not a wide range of colours are used, keeps a very simplistic form to the design.

Fashion Exercise book:

This book provides suggestions and half filled pages of drawings and doodles for its consumers to continue on with. Sections of the book apply useful information on how to design your own fashion blog, festival fashion designs, styling street style models from across the glob, and to make up your own fashion patterns and prints. It is a good idea, as for so long the idea of this kind of creativity of books/colouring books have always been launched for a children audience. But now there is starting to become a market for these kind of creative books, for teens and adults to enjoy and indulge in.  The book has loads of publicity; events and articles have been released in in the Gazette Newspaper adding an overall promote for Frances not solely on the book. added is an youtube video showing Frances using crayons to personalise a page from her book the 'Gig guide'.
